The small print, in plain words
Not investment advice
Educational purpose. Reading the Numbers explains how to read company financial reports. It is meant for learning. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
No recommendations. Nothing on this site is a recommendation or an offer to buy, sell or hold any share or other financial instrument. Labels such as “pass”, “watch”, “healthy” or a score describe how reported figures compare with general rules of thumb. They say nothing about whether a company is a good investment or what its shares are worth.
Not personal. The site does not know your finances, goals or tolerance for risk, and its content is not adapted to you. Speak to a licensed adviser before making investment decisions.
Accuracy. Figures are read automatically from reports that companies file with public registers. They can be incomplete, out of date, wrongly mapped or wrongly calculated. Always check important figures against the company’s own report, which the site links to.
Not regulated. Reading the Numbers is not a licensed investment firm or financial adviser and is not supervised by any financial authority.
Your responsibility. You alone are responsible for decisions you make. Investing involves risk, including the loss of the money invested. Past results do not predict future results.
No connection to the companies shown. Company names belong to their owners. The site is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any company it displays.

Who is responsible. Reading the Numbers, is responsible for personal data handled through Reading the Numbers. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL].
The short version. You do not need an account. We do not ask for your name or email. We use cookies only as described in the cookie policy below, and optional ones only if you agree. We do not sell personal data.
What is handled
| What | Why | Where it is kept | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| The companies you last viewed and similar settings | So the site opens where you left off | Only in your own browser | Until you clear your browser data |
| Your search text | To find the company you asked for | Sent to our server, not linked to you | Not stored against any person |
| Technical data: IP address, browser type, time of request | To deliver the pages and keep the service secure | Server logs at [HOSTING PROVIDER] | [LOG RETENTION] |
| Visitor statistics, only if you accept them | To see which lessons and companies people use, where visitors are, and which companies are missing | On our own server: the day, a random number, your country, the lesson and the company, and searches that found no company | 12 months |
When you look up a company, our server fetches its public reports from the US Securities and Exchange Commission or from filings.xbrl.org. Those requests come from our server. Your IP address is not passed on to them.
Legal basis
We handle technical data because it is necessary to provide a working and secure website (legitimate interest, GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). The settings saved in your browser are needed for a function you use. Visitor statistics are based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who receives data
- [HOSTING PROVIDER], which runs our servers on our behalf.
We do not share personal data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask for access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, and you may object to our handling. Because we do not know who you are, we may need extra information to find any data about you. Write to [CONTACT EMAIL].
You can also complain to your data protection authority. In Sweden this is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY).
Removing data stored in your browser
